Supplement of the Year - Almighty Collagen

28 December 2020

Contrary to popular belief, collagen is not a magical substance that can rejuvenate you in an instant. Collagen is a protein that is the basis of the connective tissue of the body. And this is not only skin, but also bones, cartilage, tendons. It is collagen that needs to be thanked, since its appearance made it possible to create a skeleton, and this, you see, is impressive.

Collagen protein plays an extremely important role in our body.
Although it is primarily associated with the skin, collagen is also found in hair, nails, tendons, teeth, bones, and blood vessel walls. Its action is unique: it is responsible not only for skin tension, but also for metabolism and damage regeneration. The action of collagen protein is very wide and varied, we will consider it in more detail. Collagen makes up 30% of all human proteins.
At the same time, it is 60% composed of skin proteins. Therefore, collagen deficiency primarily manifests itself on our skin, mainly on the face and neck. Its level naturally decreases with age, hence the first wrinkles and joint problems appear. It is no secret that collagen is produced in the body, but, according to scientists, after the age of 25, its production slows down, which immediately begins to affect the skin first of all.

The fact is that under the influence of factors such as stress, ultraviolet radiation, malnutrition, bad habits, collagen begins to break down. And if in youth it is not so scary (remember your 17 years, no worries in the form of an outstanding loan, or in the form of a tyrant boss), then with age this leads to unpleasant consequences.

Collagen protein in the human body

Although the skin contains the most collagen, this protein ensures the proper functioning of the entire body. It is worth mentioning that we can distinguish between up to 29 types of collagen, and each of them performs slightly different functions. Generally speaking, collagen protein is responsible, among other things, for the removal of toxins from the body, metabolism, maintenance of acid-base balance and water balance, proper growth and regeneration of tissues and immunity. This protein is present in the skin, hair and nails, as well as in bones, cartilage, tendons, vitreous and cornea of the eye, heart, kidneys, brain. It is also a major component of blood and a building block of nerve cells, fat and muscle tissue.

Collagen and its importance for the proper functioning of the body

Without collagen, the body cannot function properly. There may be infections, allergies, and muscle atrophy. Collagen protein is responsible for growth in children, as well as for the renewal of skin cells and its hydration. The disappearance of this protein can lead to cartilage and bone problems, including degeneration of the joints, as well as the appearance of varicose veins, excessive dryness of the skin and the appearance of wrinkles. Since collagen protein is also responsible for the production of synovial fluid, its deficiency can lead to joint pain. In a young and healthy person, collagen is produced automatically, each dead protein is replaced by a new one. However, the production of collagen in the body decreases after the age of 26, so then it is useful to use collagen supplements.

Collagen supplements help the body from within

As we already mentioned, the first sign of collagen deficiency in the body can be visible at first glance skin problems: excessive drying, loss of elasticity and the appearance of wrinkles.
Can this be prevented? Unfortunately, no effective method has yet been invented, but the use of collagen both externally and internally can bring tangible benefits to the entire body, including the skin. The beneficial effects of oral collagen supplementation have been confirmed by studies. However, it is worth remembering that while knee proteins can be found in many different foods, their digestibility varies. It is best to use supplements containing collagen and other beneficial ingredients that promote better absorption, including vitamin C and silicon. To date, numerous preparations with collagen have been widely used.

The benefits of using these funds have been confirmed by research by scientists and consumer reviews.

A large selection of collagen preparations can be found in sports nutrition stores (yes, athletes often resort to these products not for the purpose of rejuvenation, but to maintain the condition of joints and bones that are subjected to heavy loads during sports), as well as in pharmacies and, of course, same in stores.

The most common types are:

  • Vitamin complexes containing collagen - most often such complexes include hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and biotin, and such an explosive mixture gives an excellent result in rejuvenating and healing the skin.
  • Collagen in capsules / tablets - in such preparations, the content of collagen is already more concentrated (80-90%), the composition also includes amino acids, and sometimes vitamin C.
  • Drinking collagen - here it is worth distinguishing between two types, the first powder, the composition of which is similar to collagen in capsules, but which is less convenient to use, since it must be stirred in shakers to avoid the appearance of lumps, and collagen in the form of a finished drink, but often it is more it looks like an energy drink, and collagen in one bottle is from 8 to 35%.
  • Collagen, which is part of creams / serums / emulsions - here it is important to understand that the effect of collagen will be exclusively external, since not a single cosmetic product penetrates into the deep layers of the epidermis, and, of course, to achieve the best effect, it is necessary to choose such products, in in which collagen will be in the top five components.
  • Collagen injections - the effect, of course, will be stronger than that of serums, since it is injected directly under the skin, but not everyone will treat such “beauty shots” with delight, purely because of the principle of application.

So, collagen is responsible for youth and beauty, and not only for their external manifestations. As the Chinese proverb says, "All the flowers of tomorrow are seeds of today." The use of collagen now will help to avoid problems with the joints, gastrointestinal tract, and even sleep in the future.

Choose the tool that best suits you.

It is worth mentioning that before using drugs and injections, you should consult a doctor to reduce the risk of side effects.
