Sakharov. Two lifes

Narration of the film “Sakharov. Two Lives" will be divided into two parts in accordance with the state of the hero. Sakharov at the beginning and at the end of the film are two different people. The first created deadly weapons, the second - everything possible to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe, the cause of which may be the existence of not only nuclear weapons, but also the totalitarian regime that owns them.

"The rebirth of the hero, his fears, suffering, doubts, numerous external and internal conflicts, violent clashes with the antagonists of history, difficult overcoming of this rebirth - the basis of the dramaturgy of the documentary-feature film "Sakharov. Two Lives""

The documentary part of the film is based on a unique photo and video chronicle of the life of the hero, the country and the world in the memoirs of Sakharov from his three-volume memoirs.

The authors of the film are screenwriter Roman Super and director Ivan Proskuryakov, a well-known creative tandem for his previous works: “With closed windows: an honest biography of Kirill Tolmatsky”, “This is Edik: a tale of a lost childhood” about Eduard Uspensky and others.

“The idea to make a film came about six years ago: I then ended up in the Moscow apartment-museum of Sakharov, plunged into his biography and sincerely wondered that no one had made a biopic about our main superhero of the 20th century, although absolutely everything was collected in this fate, what you need for a blockbuster is passion, overcoming, dangers, the constant struggle between evil and good, a dizzying character evolution, a love drama. So I would have puzzled myself further if Igor Mishin had not called me last summer and said that there was no need to waste time on bewilderment, we need to make a movie. And here we are filming."

Chulpan Khamatova and Alexey Usoltsev will star in the lead roles. According to Khamatova, she read the script with amazement, as she discovered that she had a "vague and poor idea" of Sakharov's life story before his human rights activities. “I just plunged into the script, absorbed it,” she said, adding that this is an important and interesting story about how a person’s path and his views on the reality that surrounded him changed.

Alexey Usoltsev agreed with his colleague, emphasizing that Sakharov was able to change his fate.

The Soviet physicist, public figure, dissident and human rights activist, Nobel Peace Prize winner in 1975 Andrei Sakharov was engaged in the development of nuclear and thermonuclear weapons, while simultaneously carrying out human rights activities.

In 1968, the scientist's article "On Peaceful Coexistence, Progress and Intellectual Freedom" gained popularity and was published in many countries. In it, the academician discussed the future of science in the life of society, and also offered ideas about a possible convergence of the socialist and capitalist systems, which would be accompanied by democratization and demilitarization, social and scientific and technological progress. In these ideas, the scientist saw the only alternative to the death of mankind.

Sakharov was one of the founding members of the Human Rights Committee, established in 1970 to study the problem of ensuring and promoting human rights in the USSR, but which lasted no more than six years. In the late 70s, the academician made a number of statements against the entry of Soviet troops into Afghanistan, which were printed on the front pages of Western newspapers. After that, he and his wife Elena Bonner were sent into exile without trial, to the city of Gorky, having been deprived of the title of Hero of Socialist Labor three times. The scientist was released from exile on December 23, 1986.

The filming of the documentary will use ARFX technology, which allows you to place the hero in the events of the film - in the appropriate authentic historical context. This technology allows you to shoot complex shots without chromakey in real time using a high-resolution diode screen with a pixel pitch of 2.6 mm, a camera tracking system and a server powered by Unreal Engine.

High-quality 3D scenes will be displayed on the LED screen, providing a realistic background and realistic lighting of objects. The perspective on the 3D background adjusts to the camera position in real time, which maximizes the effect of the presence of the actors in the location.

The film is produced by MTS Media for its multimedia platform based on the MTS TV online cinema. The premiere of the project will take place in the MTS TV online cinema on May 21, 2021, on the birthday of Andrei Dmitrievich Sakharov.
