Cadillac's drive towards an electric future begins with the debut of the LYRIQ, a dynamic, modern and all-electric luxury crossover.
The powertrain and technologies incorporated in this vehicle allow Cadillac to take a significant step forward in electrification, mobility and autonomous driving, and provide impressive performance, opening up great prospects for integrating the latest solutions.
“Led by LYRIQ, Cadillac will reimagine American luxury and introduce a new portfolio of electric vehicles of the future over the next decade,” said Steve Carlyle, executive vice president and president of GM North America.
“We strive to deliver experiences to our customers that engage the senses, anticipate desires and inspire incredible journeys.” The LYRIQ is based on GM's next-generation modular electric vehicle platform and powered by the Ultium propulsion system, allowing Cadillac to offer customers a variety of performance options.

Since driving range is one of the most important factors when choosing an electric vehicle, LYRIQ can provide a range of about 500 kilometers on a full charge, according to internal tests*.

Key features and technologies include:

  • Charging options to suit different home, work and long-distance travel preferences, including DC fast charging over 150 kilowatts and level 2 charging up to 19 kW**
  • Rear and all wheel drive options
  • The latest version of Super Cruise***, the industry's first truly hands-free driver assistance feature. The system is already available on more than 300,000 kilometers of compatible highways and has recently been upgraded to automatic lane change.
  • New technologies such as head-up display with augmented reality and dual-view functionality and remote self-parking
  • The most intuitive and adaptive driver and passenger experience available, including the latest Cadillac user interface on a 33-inch LED screen that spans the entire driver's field of vision.

“LYRIQ was designed to make every journey an exciting experience. More than a century of innovation has led the brand into a new era, rewarding passengers with a more personalized, engaging and even immersive experience,” said Jamie Brewer, Cadillac LYRIQ Chief Engineer. “To achieve this, we have developed a new architecture specifically for electric vehicles. This is not only an exceptional electric vehicle, but above all a Cadillac.”

ALL-NEW ULTIUM BATTERY SYSTEM

The Cadillac LYRIQ is powered by GM's new Ultium battery system that delivers approximately 100 kilowatt-hours of power for high performance.
Ultium's cutting-edge NCMA (Nickel-Cobalt-Manganese-Aluminum) chemistry uses aluminum in the cathode to reduce the need for rare earth metals such as cobalt.
In fact, GM engineers have reduced the cobalt content by more than 70 percent compared to the current generation of GM batteries. The advanced battery chemistry is packaged in large, flat cells that allow the creation of smart modules that simplify the cooling process. In addition, the battery electronics are built directly into the modules, reducing the amount of battery wiring by nearly 90 percent compared to current GM electric vehicles.

Thanks to DC fast charging, LYRIQ can charge at over 150kW.

FREEDOM FROM LIMITS

Some premium EVs today are built around an adapted architecture of a traditional internal combustion engine, but this is not the case with the LYRIQ at all.
The all-new Cadillac Modular EV platform on which the LYRIQ is based is the foundation of its superior performance. Thanks to an architecture specifically designed for electric vehicles, the design is not limited by the need to adapt electric propulsion to a traditional vehicle structure, which provides not only increased range, but also a new driving experience and a new interpretation of passenger space. The Ultium battery system is an internal structural element, integrated in a way that promotes better manageability and safety.
In fact, this placement of the battery pack results in a lower center of gravity and a roughly 50/50 weight distribution, making the car very responsive, dynamic, and suitable for sporty driving. In addition, the LYRIQ is driven predominantly by the rear wheels, with the option of all-wheel drive.

Positioning the engine at the rear of the vehicle contributes to a more palpable balance and agility, reaffirming Cadillac's longstanding commitment to delivering performance vehicles to satisfy the most demanding customer. It also allows the system to direct more torque to the road surface without slip for impressive acceleration and greater flotation. Models equipped with all-wheel drive go one step further: the second drive unit, located at the front of the vehicle, offers considerable tuning flexibility, improving driving dynamics and efficiency.

THE ART OF INTEGRATED TECHNOLOGIES

LYRIQ's interaction with driver and passengers is both proactive and unobtrusive, thanks to intuitive communication technologies.
When approached, the LYRIQ recognizes the driver and initiates a “hello” with a preset lighting sequence, and prepares the interior for the trip, including seat, mirror and climate system adjustments.
While driving, LYRIQ creates the highest level of connection with the driver, offering timely infotainment services and integrated communication capabilities. The advanced 33-inch LED display is a single large screen that covers the entire driver's field of view and includes detailed trip information, infotainment controls and camera views.

The display has the highest pixel density available in the automotive industry today and can display over one billion colors, 64 times more than any other vehicle.

Additional technologies and interactive features include:

  • Monitor battery and charging status with simple and clear graphics. The system identifies the vehicle's energy needs at home and on the go, according to the owner's preferences, and monitors and predicts energy consumption and provides charging recommendations.
  • The new head-up display with augmented reality features a two-dimensional view, showing speed, direction and more in the foreground, transparent navigation signals and other important warnings in the background.
  • The latest version of the Super Cruise driver assistance system, including the automatic lane change function.
  • Controlled remote parking. using ultrasonic sensors. LYRIQ parks both parallel and perpendicular – regardless of whether the driver is inside or outside the vehicle****.

FEELING SOUND

LYRIQ sound technologies work in two important ways: by blocking out unwanted sounds and by maximizing the sounds passengers want to hear.
For the first time, Cadillac will introduce a new noise-canceling technology that offers more microphones and accelerometers to enhance sound and take car audio to the next level.

With this new system, Cadillac's performance and audio engineers can influence the frequency range of tire noise, reducing noise inside the car and providing a quieter cabin experience.

The sound in the Cadillac LYRIQ is presented in an exclusive partnership of the brand with AKG. “With LYRIQ, we wanted to create a sound that would instantly take the driver out of the car and into the recording studio,” said Hussain Khalil, Lead Audio Design Engineer at Cadillac. “With the AKG sound system, we are able to deliver this experience along with the quality and reliability that customers in the premium segment have come to expect.”

THE NEW FACE OF CADILLAC

Cadillac's first electric crossover showcases a bold design: new proportions and looks designed for the brand's new generation of electric vehicles.
This is a look into the future, not constrained by the needs of a traditional internal combustion engine and transmission. “LYRIQ represents the iconic brand's next styling inspiration, inspired by the possibilities of electrification,” said Andrew Smith, Executive Director of Global Cadillac Design.
“Inside and out, LYRIQ is a thoughtful integration of design and technology designed to make every ride unique.” The LYRIQ features sleek lines, an aggressive and modern look with a low, dynamic roofline and a wide stance that emphasize the combination of agility and confidence.
Additional details such as the aerodynamically shaped roof spoiler demonstrate the close attention paid to aerodynamics for greater efficiency on highways. The distinctive black crystal grille is one of LYRIQ's most unique and expressive design elements.
It is part of a light choreography that, along with subtle vertical LED signature lighting, greets the wearer as they approach. The taillight design also includes thin LEDs that are integrated into the overall lighting pattern. The new architecture of the LYRIQ electric car opens up endless possibilities for rethinking the organization of the interior space of the car and the placement of various interior elements. The result is a more airy, minimalistic design that also offers the driver and passengers exceptional functionality when it comes to storage solutions. Cadillac designers have focused on subtle yet noticeable details such as illuminated speaker grilles, curved screens with hidden storage options, and intelligently arranged interior lighting features.
