Towards an electric future

6 October 2020

The issue of a responsible attitude to the environment and the future is becoming more important every day, not only for Volvo Cars, but for the entire global industry.
Hybrid and all-electric versions of vehicles are gradually replacing traditional combustion models, expanding the possibilities for more environmentally friendly transportation. The Swedish Embassy in Moscow opted for the XC60 Recharge T8 Plug-in hybrid, denoting its key aspirations. “This summer, Sweden announced the transition to a circular economy, where ecology and environmental protection are among our top priorities.

Therefore, choosing one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles on the market was very important to us. We at the Swedish Embassy in Moscow also sort waste, avoid unnecessary flights, save paper, and try to reduce our pressure on the environment as much as possible. We were happy to welcome Mr. Martin Persson and colleagues from Volvo Car Russia at the symbolic key handover ceremony at our Embassy, with whom we discussed future plans and current projects,” said Swedish Ambassador to Russia Malena Mard, commenting on the handover of the car.

Towards an electric future

In Russia in 2020, Volvo Recharge is represented by two hybrid models: the Volvo XC90 T8 premium SUV and the Volvo XC60 T8 mid-size crossover. The Twin Engine hybrid powertrain with a total output of 407 hp allows the driver to choose the most comfortable driving style, including an all-electric and silent mode with zero emissions – Pure.

“The future of the automotive industry is electric. Based on our strategic goals, we have absolutely clear intentions to take a strong position in the market for hybrid cars and electric cars. In the first half of 2020, Volvo Cars became the leading electrified premium brand in Europe. The Recharge line accounted for almost a quarter of Volvo's sales in the region. We are confident that the electrification trend will also reach the Russian automotive market, albeit more gradually and somewhat later. In addition, we expect our Russian customers to experience for the first time all the benefits of driving electrified vehicles thanks to hybrids. We are very pleased that the Swedish Embassy in Moscow chose the Volvo XC60 Recharge version,” said Martin Persson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Russia.
